๐Ÿชฎ

Hair Pick Emoji ๐Ÿชฎ

An Afro pick, the long-toothed comb made for coiled hair, proposed by Rhianna Jones and Jennifer Daniel and added to the keyboard in 2022. Their proposal traced the tool back roughly 6,000 years to Egypt and to the 1970s Black is Beautiful movement, and paired it with โœŠ Raised Fist to mean Black pride and solidarity as much as an actual grooming tool.

What ๐Ÿชฎ means

A hair pick with a wide-toothed comb and upright handle โ€” the essential tool for afro-textured hair. The ๐Ÿชฎ Hair Pick emoji (Emoji 15.0, September 2022) was a meaningful addition: everyday representation for Black hair care, styling routines, and the culture around them.

Many designs nod to the iconic fist-handle picks of the 1970s, carrying a bit of that history onto the keyboard.

How and when to use it

  • Hair-day content: "Wash day complete. The ๐Ÿชฎ and I have been through a journey today."
  • Barbershop and salon posts: "Fresh shape-up, ๐Ÿชฎ in the back pocket, unstoppable."
  • Celebrating natural hair milestones: "One year loc'd ๐Ÿชฎโœจ"
