Emoji quizzes

Reference sites are useful; quizzes are fun. This corner of the site is for the fun part.

The Daily Five Five emojis, four possible names each. Same puzzle for the whole world, new one at midnight UTC. Streaks on the line. Play today's puzzle →

How it works

Each round shows you an emoji's official artwork and four names — three decoys and the real one, as Unicode formally calls it. Some are gimmes. Some are the kind of thing only a person who has spent too long on this site would know (guilty). Get all five and you've earned the right to be smug in the group chat.

Every emoji in the quiz links back to its full page afterwards, so when a name surprises you — and "Hairy Creature" surprises everyone — you can read what it actually is, where it came from, and how each platform draws it. The puzzles pull from the same collection as the rest of the site: nearly 2,000 emojis across nine categories, from the 2010 originals to this year's newcomers.

Quick answers

When does the daily quiz reset?

At midnight UTC, so everyone in the world plays the same puzzle on the same day. If it feels like it flipped at an odd hour, that's your timezone talking.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

Free, no account, no app. Your streak and stats live in your browser, which also means they're tied to this browser on this device — clear your browsing data and the streak goes with it. You've been warned.

How is the score shared without spoiling the answers?

The share text only shows which of the five you got right or wrong as colored squares, never the emojis themselves — same idea Wordle made famous.
