Liechtenstein's flag used to be a plain blue-over-red bicolor, until officials at the 1936 Berlin Olympics realized it was identical to Haiti's. The country added a gold crown to the upper corner the following year, meant to represent the unity of its people and its princely family. Few flags can trace a design change back to an Olympic near-miss.
