The Bahamas flies aquamarine, gold, then aquamarine again in three even horizontal bands, with a black triangle wedged in at the hoist. The blue-green bands stand for the sea ringing the islands, the gold for sun and sand, and the black triangle for the drive of the Bahamian people. The design dates to July 1973, when the islands left British rule.
