How the clues work

Guess any emoji by typing its name and picking from the suggestions. After each guess, three clues light up: whether you matched the secret's category (the nine big groups), its subgroup (Unicode's finer filing — hearts, big cats, sky & weather), and its era — with an arrow telling you if the secret joined the keyboard earlier or later than your guess.

Category narrows the neighborhood, subgroup narrows the street, era narrows the house number. Most solves click on guess four or five; a guess-two solve deserves a screenshot. One secret per day, the same for everyone, flipping at midnight UTC — and your streak lives in this browser. Brush up on the categories or the version history if you want to play with an unfair advantage.
