Laughter is the best medicine, they say. If you wish to feel better instantly, laugh. But. What they don’t know is that, once you’re used to keeping a bitch face, it’s quite difficult to break into laughter unnecessarily. Although laughing is a wonderful feeling, many find it to be annoying as well. That way, all emotions could be wonderful and annoying to different people.
Let’s just stick to the majority, and say that it’s a wonderful feeling.
If you’re laughing, the reason possibly lies in a joke. Many times it’s not an obvious joke. You could be laughing at something ridiculous, embarrassing, or even cringy. But facts remain that it doesn’t matter what you’re laughing at, you could always get people to join you. The emotional response of laughter is the most spreadable of all emotions.
Think about it. For some of us, it’s easy to cry when we see another person crying. It’s difficult to burst into a rage when we see someone angry. But, it’s the easiest to laugh when we see someone laughing. That would explain the mass hysteria of laughter, also known as the Tanganyika Laughter Epidemic. It spread, continued to spread, and kept spreading.
Okay, we didn’t intend to darken the mood so much. But, anyhoo. Here are all the laughing emojis that you could use to show that you’re bawling with laughter, giggling, rolling on the floor, sharing hearty laughter, or even crying “tears of joy”, virtually.
Yes, it’s not a ‘laughing’ emoji per se but 😀 is a valid laughing expression. How’s that?
When we’re laughing at something that’s not very funny or funny at all, we tend to offer a gestural grin and a broad-toothed smile as a way of saying “yeah, I get what you’re saying”. It’s that laugh. A snort of sorts.
This emoji could also represent a sense of sharing mutual sarcasm or even an experience that’s common amongst two or more parties.
- Oh boy, tell me about it! Work places and zero misogyny is literally like paradise on earth 😀
Though this is not exactly a ‘laughing emoji’, it works for a subtle laugh, like a giggle. More like a wide-eyed giggle. It’s the kind of “laugh” you’d let out when you’re surprised, the really good and happy kind of a surprised.
- I wasn’t expecting that! Oh my god! 😃
The “big eyes” here is key. It could suggest an array of happy emotional responses, from surprise to even a feeling of warmth and pride (the good kind, ofc) with/for another person.
- So so SO proud of you love! 😃 I knew you’d own the success you’re so deserving of!
Much like the previous emojis; the grinning series, 😄too is a ‘subtle laugh’ but with a more pleasant or ‘warm’ facial response.
😄 is the kind of hearty giggle you’d let out when someone compliments you (and you actually take it). It’s also a reaction to someone/something you love, and pretty much anything that you positively feel for, thus responding to it in the best and warmest way possible.
- 🧔: Hey, man. I’ve been meaning to tell you that I really, REALLY love your blog. It’s amazing.
👩: *instead of awkwardness, how about* Aye. Thanks a bunch, man. Means a lot 😄
- Wow. I really needed this positivity to begin my groggy Monday morning. Thank you! 😄
This one’s the “cute laugh”. Imagine this. Someone you love the most is asking if you finished the food that was supposed to be saved for them. Hehe 😁. Yes, bitch. I finished all the cookies, hehe 😁. That laugh.
😁 is honestly the most innocent and child-like giggle/laughter. Besides, it could be used even while taking compliments in a more cute and open manner. In fact, this one emoji is enough to seal a conversation without further verbatim of how glad you are.
Introverts! Here’s your million-dollar trick to escape the unwanted conversations!
- 👩🦳: Also, I must tell you that we’re really proud to have you on the team
*after nearly 5 thank yous along the conversation*
(there, sealed the deal like a bawse!)
👨🦰: Bro. BRO. Listen. I’ve gone to the gym for a week now, and I don’t think I can go any longer.
👨🦲: What? How is this surprising? Wasn’t it bound to happen? 😆
Mocking laugh. That’s what 😆 is. It’s the guilty pleasure of laughing at someone/something than with them. This emoji also paints a very real picture of one of our F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Guess who.
Also, if you don’t wish to take 😆 in such a derogatory context, it works constructively as well! We’re positive about that!
😆 backs any hilarious context with the aptest reaction. It could even be used to reply to something that you didn’t find that funny. A way of maintaining good manners especially when you don’t like something.
The acknowledging haha.
We’ve all been in embarrassing situations. We all know that feeling of wishing to be invisible/dead instead.
*employee calls in sick*
*posts a story about what he’s actually doing (travel, ofc), and forgets to hide the story from the boss*
*Boss replies to that story*
Whoops. That whoops, is this emoji.
😅 could also be an awkward laugh in response to something stupid, sweetly dumb, or something cringy.
🧔: Ohhh. Now I get the joke!
*after a week*
👨🦰: Haha. Nice 😅
Now, this. This one’s the “perfect laughter”, the one we popularly mean when we say I died of laughter or Gosh. I can’t. 🤣 represents that stomach-aching-laughter. That reaction to something painfully hilarious. Nonetheless, it’s one of the very few “best feelings”, we must say. But please, it’s not always funny to bring up a 5-year-old joke.
- 👨🦲: Dude! Remember the time we cut Hannah’s hair and stuck it to her bathroom door for no fkn reason?!! OMG that’s the funniest shit ever 🤣🤣🤣
👩🦱: Yeah. That was ten years ago.
👨🦲: Oh. But still, gosh that was funny 🤣🤣🤣
👩🦱: Are you doing drugs again?
😂 is usually applied as a close variant of the previous emoji; the ‘rolling on the floor in laughter face’. But we know that this emoji conveys much lesser emotion than 🤣. This emoji is in response to something that’s hilarious, but not enough to make you weak.
It’s the reaction to something satirical, sarcastic, a political joke, anything that’s a joke more than it’s funny.
😹 is the cat version of the previous emoji, the 😂 face with “tears of joy”. But, as we’ve said in other blog posts, a cat emoji mimicking a human emotion only reduces the intensity of that emotion.
However, the case is reversed here. 😹 can make something funnier because it’s a cat laughing at the joke! While that’s a trippy sight, it’s hysterical 😹😹.
🤭 works for different kinds of funny. It could be a “mocking laugh” with no chill whatsoever, it could be mockery but with a genuine soft corner (the “omg, you can be cute and atrociously dumb sometimes”) and it could also be an attempt to cover a blush/shy giggle.
*receives a compliment*
Omg stop it 🤭
*receives funny news that’s not exactly supposed to be funny*
Geez. Wasn’t expecting that 🤭
*receives text messages about an epic fail, mostly that’s happened to the person texting*
I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t be laughing at this. 🤭 I’m sorry.
Different kinds of funny.
Laughter is important. It’s important to let loose and laugh a little. If you’ve noticed, laughing at something only makes it that much easy-going. No rigidity. Nothing hard and fast. No rules to break, since there aren’t any. Freedom. Laughing to the heart’s content even if it must be at yourself, lightens the heart, the mind, and most importantly the situation. It’s freedom in one of its purest forms.
So, the next time you’re laughing your ass off at something, just giggling about it, or choking on the joke, make sure you use the right laughing emoji because laughter too has its sides.
