When the Federal Republic of Central America broke apart, Honduras kept the old blue-white-blue flag but added five blue stars across the white band in 1866, one for each former member: Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Costa Rica. It was a statement of hope the union might reform. The two blue bands stand for the Pacific and Caribbean coastlines the country sits between.
What 🇭🇳 means
A horizontal triband of navy blue stripes at the top and bottom borders, and white in the middle, which is also detailed with five tiny five-pointed stars centrally placed in two brackets of two stars on either side and one in between.
